大相撲名古屋場所９日目の１８日、序二段の取組で、西５３枚目の北斗と同５７枚目の羅王丸（らおうまる）が初対戦した。

　人気漫画「北斗の拳」からしこ名を取った北斗。本当は下の名前も主人公と同じ「ケンシロウ」にしたかったそうだが、さすがに親方が許してくれなかった。

　羅王丸は本名が伊藤羅王。親が漫画のファンで主人公の好敵手「ラオウ」から名を取った。土俵際の投げで勝ち越しを決めた北斗は「力士としてより、北斗の拳のファンとして絶対に負けられなかった」。
