・その孫も、伯父や伯母に手紙を書くとき、「伯母さまお元気ですか？」と書いていると、祖母が「……か？ のかの字を取りなさい」とたしなめたという。ときが流れ、あるとき、孫は祖母のいった真意に気づく。「「か」をつけることはたずねることになり、相手に返事を強要することになり、目上の人には失礼なことなのだ。けっして相手に負担をかけることをしてはいけないことを、ばばさまが教えてくれたのだ」と。孫は伯母など、目上の人にあてる手紙は「伯母さま、お元気のことと存じます」と、したためることを覚える。
